FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR CLASSES

What is Creative Movement (age 2.5-5)?

What is the difference between Rhythm tap and Broadway tap?

Think of Rhythm tap as the foundation, and Broadway tap is an accessory. Rhythm tap will give you the fundamentals of tap dance, learn a variety of exercises and steps.  We encourage ALL students looking to improve their tap skills to take the Rhythm Tap class as it will make you a great tapper.  Broadway tap is specific to 'show tap'.  In that class, you will learn the common exercises and steps that are seen in musicals.  Broadway tap is a great drop-in class to prepare for an audition or show just to sharpen your musical theater tap skills.

What does the Acting Conservatory class entail?

The acting conservatory students will be learning a variety of different acting techniques (similar to what you might learn in a college conservatory program) like Viewpoints, Laban, Meisner, and Dialect work.  They'll do monologue, (optional) song and scene-study work utilizing these different techniques.  We are also looking to do a special showcase just for this group at the end of each semester to show their work.  Less acting games and improv, more diving into scripts and learning the framework of character building, given circumstances, etc.

What is the difference between the Tumbling level 1 & 2 for grades 3rd-6th?

Level 1 tumbling will be focusing on learning cartwheels, dive rolls, backward rolls to handstand, back bend kick overs, back walk overs & round off rebounds.

Level 2 tumbling will be for students who already have the skills from level 1 and are ready to learn back handsprings, Aerials, and back tucks.

These classes happen at the same time in different rooms, so if a student needs to be moved up or down, we can easily make the transition.

Will there be a performance at the end of the first semester for the classes?

Yes.  We are planning to do a full dance recital at the end of the Spring 2026 semester.  Acting & singing classes will do a showcase for their class at the end of each semester in the studio black-box theater.  Dance classes will have an open class or small showcase in the studio black-box theater at the end of the Fall semester.

What happens in the Singing Ensemble class?

Singing Ensemble is a group focused on learning the basics of music theory, sight reading, harmonizing, solo and group vocals.  It is taught by our amazing voice teacher Julia Laskowski and will perform in the Cabaret each semester as well as a final semester showcase for the class.

What does the Ballet Technique and Conditioning class entail?

This is our ballet-based technique class.  If you want to get better at dance, we highly suggest all students of this age group to take this class!  Don't have the focus for ballet, but you need technique?  THIS CLASS IS FOR YOU.  You will do ballet barre work, floor barre, flexibility, core and balance training, etc.

What is the difference between Precision Jazz and Theater Jazz?

Precision jazz is your traditional jazz technique class which will include a warm up, across the floor and combo.  The combo will be in the style of a dance team or drill team, however, is also utilized in many musicals as well.  Theater Jazz is specific to learning a variety of styles and combinations from different shows.  This class includes a warm up and across the floor as well, however, the steps are geared more towards traditional musical theater choreography. Combinations in the theater class will range from hip hop, traditional musical theater dance, Fosse, lyrical and more depending on the show the music is from.

If I'm in high school, can I also attend the adult drop-in classes?

Yes, as long as you are 17 years old or up!
